Joshua Van Alstine ابو متعب الامريكي

I have spent more than a decade in Saudi Arabia, a country that has defined both my personal life and professional career. Some know me as Joshua Van Alstine. Others know me as أبو متعب الأمريكي (Abu Muteb Al-Amriki), or American Badu. Together, these identities reflect the same reality: an American who has become deeply connected to Arabia its people, its culture, and its story.

Over the years, my work and voice have been featured by major outlets across Saudi Arabia and internationally. I have appeared on television and radio, been quoted in the press, and contributed to conversations about Saudi heritage, identity, and transformation. Media and public relations are not only my profession they are my passion. I believe that how stories are told matters, because narratives shape perception.

This site serves three purposes:

  1. To provide a reliable source of information about myself and my work.
  2. To archive my articles, posts, and media contributions in one accessible place.
  3. To highlight the subjects that define my interests: media, science, and heritage.

Here, you will find:

  • Reflections on Saudi Arabia’s natural and cultural heritage.
  • Insights on science and the environment, with a particular focus on desert resilience and native plants.
  • Perspectives on media and public relations, and the role of storytelling in shaping both local and global understanding of Arabia.

This is not a casual blog. It is a reference point for who I am, what I stand for, and what I have contributed. It is written for those who wish to understand not only my journey, but also the larger context of Arabia past, present, and future.
